Oracle Performance: Diagnosing Performance Problems

Oracle Performance: Diagnosing Performance Problems: "Testing Extended SQL Tracing. Try it out. All it takes to see your first trace file is a simple SQL*Plus session like this one:

alter session
set timed_statistics=true;
alter session
set max_dump_file_size=unlimited;
alter session
set tracefile_identifier='Hello';
/* only in Oracle Database 8.1.7
and later */
alter session
set events '10046 trace name context forever, level 12';
select 'Howdy, it is '||sysdate from dual;

GigaVox Media, Inc. » The Levelator™

GigaVox Media, Inc. » The Levelator™: "Do you believe in magic? You will after using The Levelator to enhance your podcast. And you'll be amazed that it's free (for non-commercial use).

So what is The Levelator? It's software that runs on Windows or OS X (universal binary) that adjusts the audio levels within your podcast or other audio file for variations from one speaker to the next, for example. It's not a compressor, normalizer or limiter although it contains all three. It's much more than those tools, and it's much simpler to use. The UI is dirt-simple: Drag-and-drop any WAV or AIFF file onto The Leveler's application window, and a few moments later you'll find a new version which just sounds better.

Have you ever recorded an interview in which you and your guest ended up at different volumes? How about a panel discussion where some people were close to microphones and others were not? These are the problems the post-production engineers of Team ITC solve every day, and it used to sometimes take them hours of painstaking work with expensive and complex tools like SoundTrack Pro, Audacity, Sound Forge or Audition to solve them. Now it takes mere seconds. Seriously. The Levelator is unlike any other audio tool you've ever seen, heard or used. It's magic. And it's free."

Akai EWI EWI4000s MIDI Wind Controller at Patchman Music

Akai EWI EWI4000s MIDI Wind Controller at Patchman Music: "The Akai EWI-4000s offers many groundbreaking new features to the EWI such as battery power, MIDI IN and MIDI OUT jacks directly on the instrument, Octave and Hold modes, and a BUILT-IN Analog Modeled Synth with digital effects! Yes, that's right- you can now just plug in a pair of headphones and play anytime, anywhere. No longer is an external sound module required! Of course the EWI4000s can still be used with external MIDI synths via the MIDI OUT jack. Patchman Music offers numerous wind controller soundbanks and patches that can be used with the EWI4000s. We are very excited about this new windsynth controller and we know you will be as well."

Jorrit Dijkstra

Jorrit Dijkstra: "I found my Lyricon I in 1999 in a junk store, and asked the inventor Bill Bernardi to repair it. He made a little time free and told me passionately the story of the invention and production. 'I spent 5 years developing the instrument, I made 4 or 5 prototypes. I studied the acoustics of wind instruments, and made a sythesizer that works with additive synthesis to imitate the overtones. The transducer contains a membrane and a photo cell, which translate breath and attack into voltages. After the first Lyricon we got requests from players to simplify the synthesizer and add an extra oscillator, so they could play parallel intervals. So we developed the Lyricon II and the Wind Driver. The synthesizer in the Lyricon II is totally different and the Wind Driver has to be hooked up to an extern analog synthesizer. They were mass produced by Selmer. Of The Lyricon II 5000 pieces were produced. The Lyricon I was hand made, only about 300 of them were made. My favourite is still the Lyricon I, cause it has more control features and a better synthesiser.'"
